Overlooking the safety of your eye is a common mistake many people make, people who work at an office in front of a computer and go home and watch TV are the most susceptible to overlooking the health of their eyes. Sometimes, overlooking the health and safety of your eyes can lead to the detriment of your eye health and a lifetime of regret. Following a few simple steps to insure the safety of your eyes once a day can negate all of the strain they go through during the course of a normal work day. Here’s some explanations of what causes eye injury and how to help avoid it.
Causes of Eye Injuries
The most common agents of eye injuries at work are usually from flying objects, air-blown or wind-blown particles, or eye strain from looking at a computer screen for more than three hours a day. There are many ways to avoid eye strain when at work, such as maintaining proper lighting. CVS (computer vision syndrome) is primarily caused from excessive squinting and changing head placement while working at a computer, by maintaining proper lighting and minimizing glare you can effectively eliminate the possibility of contracting CVS. At home, household cleaners and chemicals are common causes of eye injuries. The same applies for eye injuries at home as they do for eye injuries at the work place. It is essential to remove as much glare as possible from your TV screen and have an adequate size of TV so that squinting is reduced as much as possible. Eye injuries from foreign objects need to be taken seriously. The best way to reduce TV glare is to follow the steps listed for a computer in a workplace environment.

What to do During an Emergency
If a foreign object such as, a flying object or a wind-blown particle enters your eye, you may be at an immediate risk of eye damage. Contact your optometrist or ophthalmologist immediately for advice. Most eye doctors have emergency contact numbers for injuries that occur after normal business hours or on weekends. Depending on the situation, your eye doctor may want you to flush your eye with water or saline solution prior to your office visit. Or he or she may recommend you immediately go to the hospital emergency room. If you work with chemicals, your workplace should have a sink area where you can flush your eyes with water if a chemical splashes or otherwise invades your eyes. Flush your eyes for several minutes to dilute and rinse out any chemicals that may have contacted your eyes. When in doubt, treat all eye injuries as potential emergencies, and contact or visit an eye doctor immediately if you have urgent eye safety concerns.
Following the guidelines laid out above can help significantly reduce the potential for eye injuries. Remember, you have only one good pair of eyes. Take great care of them!

Seniors who work out live longer than those who don't. This may seem obvious, but what many people may not know or understand is how much of an impact a little working out can do for your life longevity. In fact, elderly who exercise thirty minutes a day tend to live five years longer than those who don't. As little as 30 minutes of cardio three to five days a week will add six years to your life, according to research at the Cooper Clinic in Dallas. Do that plus a couple of days of resistance training and you'll not only live longer but also look younger, feel happier, have more energy, and stay slim.
The most common problem seniors face when trying to become healthier, is where do they go to exercise and use proper equipment? Many new senior living communities have facilities that your'e able to exercise in, with all of the newest and best equipment available.

PictureIt's important to keep a nice and tidy house for loved ones
1. Find mutual goals with family members- Before touching any of your parents or grandparents stuff discuss with them the goals and what they hope to accomplish with this spring cleaning season.  You should recognize that starting a discussion about senior care can cause apprehension for many seniors and their families, but it's important to help aging love ones feel in control by discussing the goals behind this process, and ensuring them that getting their stuff in order will help them continue to maintain a good quality of life.

2. Organize- Organization is one of the key elements to having a successful spring cleaning. You should organize all important documents and any special items that they've accumulated over the years. I can assure you that taking the time to do this before an emergency occurs will help save time, money and anxiety. For example, being able to quickly provide paperwork such as a durable power-of-attorney or an advanced-health-care-directive when you unexpectedly visit the hospital with an older parent can help reduce stress and streamline the process in most scenarios.

3. Evaluate living conditions- Is their any lose rugs, any falling hazards, and  good lighting? While visiting and helping your parents clean their homes, take the time to evaluate the safety of their living environments. Making sure theyre safe is probably the main benefit to conducting a spring cleaning session, as it allows you to eliminate all risk posed by your loved ones living enviornment.

4. Clear the clutter- Whether you're helping parents move from a large family home to a smaller apartment or simply trying to clear up space in their home, downsizing can be a particularly wrenching process for aging relatives who may find it overwhelming to think about letting go of items they've gathered over a lifetime. A good rule of thumb to follow is to help aging loved ones choose the items they need and use most often, while starting to think about which friends and relatives may want items or family heirlooms with sentimental value. Consider taking pictures of sentimental items and creating a photo album. This can help ease the emotions of letting go.

There are many rumors floating around that would make someone hesitant to commit a loved one to a senior living home. The best way to come to a decision is through education and not believing in the rumors. The truth of senior living homes paints a much clearer picture of what you are putting a loved one into.

The one benefit of senior living that goes unnoticed is a Seniors ability to remain independent while still receiving the proper health care explicit to their situation. Senior living communities give their residence the freedom to be where they want; be it in a community hall, or in their own private room, without sacrificing the piece of mind that comes with medical professionals watching over you to make sure you are safe. Not to mention the many relationships seniors are apt to build when living with other people that are of the same age.

Overall when making the decision to move a loved one from the comfort of their own home and into a Senior Living Community you must look at all of the facts before making a decision, while also ignoring all of the false rumors floating around. If you can't seem to separate fact from fiction, another great way to gain factual knowledge on Senior Living communities is to actually visit one! Trust me, you won't regret it.
